In past few decades, although, we have witnessed an upsurge of innovative techniques and new discoveries in obesity , diabetes and endocrinology, outcomes have still failed to improve and the occurrence of the disease is on a rise. There exists an unmet need to fill in the huge existent gap between translation of the disease guidelines for prevention and treatment of obesity and diabetes and its potential complications into clinical practice.Though we have enough evidence to form guidelines, translational evidence for conversion of these into practice is far from real. Also, the prevalence of non-adherence and non-compliance to therapy, lifestyle and behavioural interventions needs due attention given the inability of HCPs to assess and modify the behaviour of obese and diabetic patients secondary to lack of implementation of mind health strategies.

Obesity is a now considered a mother disease and root cause for all NCDs, occurring as a result of Psycho neuro immune endocrine network chronic disease and should be treated as like any other NCD Antiobesity medications are effective tools in helping patients achieve significant weight loss. Metabolic adaptation is difficult to treat with diet and behavior modification alone but forms an important adjunct for treatment of obesity as there is a lot of mind and behavior which underlies obesity and needs to be addressed along with antiobesity medication. Health improvement with disease control forms a important strategy for obesity management Patient-centric approach with judicious use of AOMs is essential with the role of shared decision making along with mind body interventions which promote healthy and wellness behavior. Long-term maintenance of the weight loss can be achieved with wellness promotion and illness control.

There is wide recognition of the urgent need to improve the control, reduce complications, and enhance Quality of Life of millions suffering from Obesity which functions as a mother disease to Diabetes and all NCDs. Persons with obesity and diabetes have been proven to be the most vulnerable, contribute maximally to the health burden and there is call from global health leaders to work towards reducing their vulnerability and enhancing their resilience by improving mind health strategies as adjunct to newer Antiobesity medications.

The most spectacular scientific advancements in recent times is the uncovering of large overlap (co-morbidity) of Diabetes and Obesity with neuropsychiatric disorders and brain networks, even at the genetic level, and the central role of stress, allostatic load and behavioural aspects in control and outcome of Obesity and Diabetes. On the positive side, there is good evidence of effectiveness of Mind-Body Interventions, and global call for combining standard medical treatment with Mind Body interventions, which is rapidly becoming the gold standard of patient and personalized Patient centric care.

COLLABORATION AND CAPACITY BUILDING FOR GOLD-STANDARD COMBINED MIND-BODY PATIENT-CENTRIC CARE:
Capacity building for provision of gold standard patient-centric combined Mind-Body care in Obesity and Diabetes will be made possible by training health professionals to acquire competence in clinical application of Mind-Body Medicine. The innovative Clinical Workshop on Mind-Body Medicine in Diabetes and Obesity has been created by collaboration of Diabetes & Endocrinology and Obesity experts.

The innovative Program of Mind-Body Medicine in Obesity, Diabetes and Endocrinology has been created by collaboration of experts in field of Obesity, Diabetes, Endocrinology, Psychiatry, Psychology, Nutrition, Public health, Yoga and Mind-Body Medicine, and offers the latest in the field made possible by the joint effort of SPHERE (Society for Prevention, Healthcare, Education and Research), Maharashtra Endocrine Society and Center For Behavioural Medicine (CBM) Trust, Pune and (IPS) Indian Psychiatric Society.

The Program has a modular structure, is learner-centric and will proceed through interactive sessions, group learning and supervised case work with a panel of internationally recognized experts.

This Conference focuses on conceptual update on Obesity, Diabetes and NCDs as mind-body disorders, as well as practical/experiential feel of evidence-based mind-body approaches to assessment and intervention for comprehensive management of these throughout its life cycle from managing Obesity as a mother of all NCDs, pre-diabetic condition to optimizing management of Diabetes without complications to managing Diabetes with complications. An additional agenda is addressing the well-being of healthcare professionals themselves, supervised case-work & discussion sessions.
